I’m Kelly and I am a personal trainer, nutrition specialist, Les Mills SPRINT Coach, and overall wellness enthusiast living in Birmingham, Alabama! It’s taken me a while to get to where I am today so here is a little bit of my background…

I was a ballet dancer for many years, ages 5-21, dancing all the way through college at The University of Alabama. After sustaining an injury during my junior year (2009) I decided to stop dancing. During this time I noticed I had gained some weight (maybe 10 lbs) and could not figure out why. I wasn’t over-eating and I was exercising so what gives?! It wasn’t until I discovered eating clean (June 2011, thanks to Tosca Reno) that I figured out what was going on — I wasn’t eating the RIGHT kind of food! I drank diet sodas, ate too much processed bread/foods, frozen dinners, and cereals (even proclaimed “healthy” ones). All of these items are processed and cause your body to hang onto extra pounds. They’re also void of nutrition. I began to eat wholesome foods and eventually discovered my love for weight training and high intensity workouts and lost the excess weight.

Today I live a Paleo-Primal lifestyle. I feel best on limited grains and only consume grains such as organic oats, quinoa, rice (I am gluten free). I eat tons of vegetables (cruciferous are my favorite), grassfed beef/bison, chicken, pastured pork when possible, pasture raised eggs, lots of sweet potatoes, and limited fruit (1-2 servings per day). I also drink a gallon of water daily. On the rare occasion I may indulge on something like a gluten free pizza made with local, fresh ingredients, however, it’s not a weekly or even monthly occurrence. I also live on lots of healthy fats: MCT oils, coconut oil, avocados, avocado oil, almond butter, olive oil and organic peanut butter in moderation.

I feel the best I ever have and I love being able to fuel my body properly to perform its best in the gym AND in life. I believe we should treat our bodies as machines — if you are feeding it junk its not going to look good OR perform well. My goal is to influence others to change their eating habits and realize it’s not a diet — this is a way of life. The results are worth it!

  3. Hi Kelly ! Not sure you remember me but I just saw you on the JCC Facebook page. I worked the front desk when you would come so early in the morning ! But I had no idea how extraordinarily fit you are! If you need an overweight 60 something unfit lady as a Guinea pig for your certification, let me know!!!
